Biography of Martin Luther King

I started reading the biography of Martin Luther King to our class. While reading we are discussing words such as; slavery, segregation, poverty, boycott, non-violence, dreams, etc...... in honor of the holiday of his birth on Monday, Jan. 19th

It is important for you child to master the 0-5's in 3rd grade!

State Keynote

Your child got to pick a state to research and create a keynote presentation on.
They can start researching at home at anytime. They will be working on the keynote in computer class.

Math

Geometry-Unit 6

This is the last unit of Journal 1! 

We have been studying:
- lines, segments, rays
- angles and turns
-regular polygons
-symmetry
-measuring angles

Keyboarding

3rd graders have started a 20 day unit on keyboarding. It is very important for them to train their hands and brains for correct posture and home row keys! They should be going slow and being accurate in 3rd grade.

Non-Fiction

We are focusing our reading and writing on non-fiction for the next couple of months.
We just finished reading about the disaster of Titanic. Students found the main idea of each section and then wrote a summary of the book. 

We will be reading about Pompeii next.


Students will be learning the Dewey Decimal System in the Media to help them locate non-fiction books to read.

Demonstration Speeches-3rd graders will be writing a speech to show us how to do something. They will be making a poster and practicing their speech at home. We will be starting presentations next week!

We are continuing to expand our vocabulary by studying all kinds of new words. We look them up in dictionaries, find antonyms and synonyms and study what part of speech the word is.

Students have also been practicing taking notes. They have been taking notes in reading and in math class.
